Welcome
to Southern Cycling Operations
Our efforts go to promoting cycling in Knoxville and surrounding
areas. This year the SCO club put on two races, the River
Road Time Trial and the Downtown Maryville Criterium Race,
and the 2nd Annual English Mountain Challenge. In the past,
we've had over 400 riders participate in these events and
we're hoping for even more this year! This marks the tenth
year of our promotion of the River Road Time Trial.
The club will continue to reimburse riders for entry fees
for those that wear the club jersey and qualify. The reimbursement
covers Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina. Approximately
40 riders took advantage of the reimbursements with over $4000
disbursed.
Also, we continue to promote cycling with 3 club members (Caroline
Cooley, Jay Nevans, and John Baker) on Knoxville's Bicycle
Advisory Committee. The committee raises awareness and promotes
tolerance in addition to working with TDOT and the city engineers
to make sure all new construction includes allowances for
safe cycling. 2006 also marks the second year for our participation
in Adopt-A-Mile on Neubert Springs Road. At least twice yearly,
the club picks up trash and litter on the first mile of Neubert
which is the gateway to south Knoxville's best cycling roads.
SCO
meets on the first wednesday of every month at the Bike Zoo

Specialized Women's Demo and Clinic at The Bike Zoo
Test rides 10am-6pm
Clinic 6pm-8pm (refreshments provided)
The topics covered at a womens event can include, but are certainly not limited to:
1) Fit- Why do women who ride need gear of their own? This is an important message and one I will always try to address. Ill talk about the differences between men and women in the scientific development of our products.
2) Fit problems and solutions- I already have a bike. How can I improve my riding experience with accessories or other equipment? saddles, gloves, handlebars, shoes, etc.
3) How to dress- warm or cold climates and everything in between
4) What to bring on a ride- mountain or road
5) How-to: maintenance demo- how to change a flat, clean and lube a chain, etc.
6) Nutrition- Ill discuss some of my favorite preride meals.
What do I eat on my ride? When?
7) Training- very basic schedule.
8) Q&A
If you have any ideas or topics you would like to discuss, please do forward those along. I will not usually talk about all of the topics listed above as it can be too much. Ideally, we would pick two, maybe three.
